The feedback from the clients and partners, cooperation with whom became long-term, is a value. This is exactly about the story of cooperation of CMC-Ukraine with the head of the Construction Company “ASCON” Vladylen Sterzhynskyi during wartime.
The ASCON company is one of the first clients of the project “Business Development Services Provided to Ukrainian MSME in crisis due to the ongoing war”. Construction business and the way it was changed because of the war were discussed with Vladylen:
“We joined this project wishing to revive the business activity. When the war began, our business had already suffered enough due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of the war the work on projects was fully stopped, partnerships were curtailed, and we were deprived of the opportunity to professionally cooperate with other participants of the market. When we started working with the consultant, it was of vital importance to get the expertise of the current business model of the company, as well as carry out modification in order to improve the efficiency of the operating activities. It is indeed very valuable to know and feel that you are supported in such hard times. Then, due to working with consultant Elvira Faizullina I could look from the outside – I was able to assess my business, myself and all happening within. When a company is closed, and there is nobody to watch it, give any comments, including critical ones, - it is stagnating. We were given the opportunity to look inside our business from the point of view of third parties – experienced professionals – and outline the issues which need to be worked at. Additionally, we got supporting partnership, due to which some other partnerships were developed.”
The work of construction companies in Ukraine is an inalienable part of our hopes for the recovery of Ukraine. Since June 2022, the ASCON company is engaged in reconstruction of social infrastructure facilities – it repairs homes damaged by hostile missile strikes.
Due to the war, construction business has become flexible and innovative; has been forced to actively communicate on all levels. According to Vladylen Sterzhynskyi, now it is impossible to just dismantle or assemble a house destroyed by a russian missile:
“We are constantly trying to improve industrial processes: we have carried out repairs of some particular products and constructions directly on building site, with possibility of their re-use (both for intended purpose and alternatively); have started sorting construction waste; have found partners who take the second raw materials, in particular damaged metal-plastic windows. We are conducting negotiations with organizations which can recycle wood, glass. We are working not only on things that increase income from the projects, but also on things which reduce the negative effect on the environment and increase operational efficiency. The waste during wartime need to be not just recycled, but recycled wisely.
Besides, today we are responsible not only for ecology, but also for the mood of the residents of repaired houses, mood of the Housing Cooperative, plans of KMSA (Kyiv Municipal State Administration). We must sort the waste, collect everything that will be recycled and, at the same time, help people to return to their homes as soon as possible. And sometimes it is need to help all the interested parties to come to an agreement and respect common interests.
Ukraine cannot be recovered mechanically or by single-use approach. We take small steps moving towards innovations in recovery processes. At the moment, construction business needs plenty of cooperation and partnerships, as well as social responsibility”.
“There are some people about whom we can say with confidence that they work on vocation. For them – obstacles are exercises; difficulties are challenges, which encourage action. Vladylen Sterzhynskyi is one of those people. Together we worked on the strategy and vision of future competences of the company, searched for the ways to achieve the goals. Working with such clients gives the faith for the future of the Ukrainian business,” – shared her impressions from the cooperation the Vice-President of CMC-Ukraine, a Certified Management Consultant (CMC), Certified Project and Program Manager (IPMA, Level C) Elvira Faizullina.
